MA Integrative Child & Adolescent Psychotherapy

Trauma Informed & Neuro Affirming Practice

I work with clients of all ages, adults, parents, adolescents, and children. I am Integrative Counsellor, moving between different theoretical approaches including Person Centred Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Gestalt Therapy depending on each client’s individual therapeutic needs. My main therapeutic approach is Humanistic where I apply a Person-Centered focus with clients by establishing an empathic and nonjudgmental relationship in a relaxed, confidential setting with each client.

Depending on the presenting issues, I may incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), helping the client make the link between thoughts, emotions, and behavior. Where appropriate, I work with the client through Psychodynamic Therapy, understanding how early childhood relationships and experiences can impact on their present difficulties and behaviors.

I enhance the therapeutic process where appropriate, using Mindfulness, Meditation and Creative Arts, helping the client express themselves, through painting, drawing, collage, clay, sand tray, poetry, and music allowing freedom for the individual to open their minds and create in a free-flowing method. Working creatively, is working from the bottom up, gently bringing the unconscious to the conscious. Through the relationship and process, I assist the client to find meaning in their work in a contained, appropriate, safe atmosphere. I feel, this process is especially beneficial for those clients who find verbal expression difficult.

As a child psychotherapist I incorporate play therapy to provide developmentally appropriate psychotherapy in assessing and treating psychosocial challenges. This enables the child to express and understand their feelings through the gentle nature of play and creativity.

I am also a neurodivergent psychotherapist and work with neurodivergent adults, adolescents, and children. This includes, as defined presently as Dyslexia, Dyspraxia/DCD, Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), attention deficit disorder (ADD)/attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD, Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), Tourette’s Syndrome, Functional Movement Disorder (FMD).

I work with neurodivergent clients in helping them find a safe space which is comfortable for their own specific needs. Giving my clients and their families support and tools to assist them achieve their full potential.

In my practice I encompass, equality, diversity, and inclusion irrespective of gender, sexual orientation, race, or ethnicity.

I am also a general psychotherapist working in the areas of mental health issues; anxiety, stress, depression, bereavement, self-harm, suicide distress, eating distress, gender identity (LGBTQIA+), sexuality, women’s health, chronic pain, disabilities, allergies (anaphylaxis), relationships & spirituality.

I am based in Edenderry, Co Offaly bordering Kildare, Meath and Westmeath. I am only a 45 minute drive from the M50 in Dublin
